Structural Drawing: A Three Dimensional Approach
May 28th-30th; Cost: $360
This course has been designed for students of figure drawing and painting in order to improve their structural knowledge. Its main objective is to equate modeling in paint or graphite to modeling in clay.
Structural Drawing will be taught in three parts: drawing from architectonic and organic forms in colored pencil, sculpting from the skull, and finally sculpting and drawing the human head. By sculpting, drawing and extrapolating concepts of inner figure, the use of structural analysis should enable the student to rapidly develop a tactile sense of the finish. |

Exploring the Process of Portrait Painting w/ Amaya
Gurpide and Jordan Sokol
August 22nd-26th; Cost: $600
In this collaborative workshop, painters Jordan
Sokol and Amaya Gurpide will guide students through
a methodical exploration of the painted portrait.
Demonstrations and individualized critiques will
present students with a structured thought process
for translating the fundamentals of visual perception
into an accurate and realistic representation of
the human head. The class will focus on one portrait,
giving students the opportunity to experience the
various stages of the painting process and offering
them the opportunity to develop a more completed
painting.
Students will be lead through basic and advanced
concepts of head construction, anatomy, form and
its relationship to light, the optical impression,
as well as color theory. The class will also include
an insightful introduction to several Spanish and
Italian painters up to the 19th century.
This is a unique opportunity to work with two painters,
visiting from Europe, and bringing together their
distinct methods of working into a unified approach
to painting the portrait. |
